Gun Post Lanes Introduce
Gun Post Lanes is a prominent and historic entertainment complex located on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx. Often cited as the oldest bowling alley in the borough, it provides a classic, multi-faceted venue for family fun, competitive bowling, and social gatherings. It is far more than just a place to bowl, functioning as a full-service community center that combines a substantial 48-lane bowling facility with a lounge, a pool hall, a snack bar, and a video arcade.
The atmosphere at Gun Post Lanes is frequently described by locals as having an "old-school NYC vibe," embracing its long history and traditional setup. It appeals to a broad cross-section of the New York community, from dedicated league bowlers and seniors enjoying daytime specials to families hosting weekend birthday parties. The venue's focus is on providing affordable family fun and maintaining a strong sense of community.
In addition to the extensive bowling area, the presence of a dedicated pool hall and a video arcade—featuring a range of games—ensures that there are activities available even for guests who aren't actively bowling. The venue is fully equipped with food offerings and a full bar, allowing guests to spend hours on-site without needing to seek outside refreshments.
Importantly, Gun Post Lanes has explicitly defined itself as an LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender safespace. This commitment to inclusivity is vital in fostering a welcoming and safe environment for all members of the diverse New York population. While the venue has been highlighted for providing organized and clean service for events, as noted by a satisfied parent who hosted a birthday party, it is necessary to acknowledge that some customer reviews have raised serious concerns about certain staff interactions, particularly regarding issues of customer service and alleged profiling based on the neighborhood. Potential visitors should be aware of this mixed feedback while considering the venue's overall offerings and its function as a historic community gathering spot.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1WOW! RACISM IN 2025! What was supposed to be a fun calm family day turned into a shit show! The owner (an elder Italian man) is aggressive and instead of apologizing for his aggressiveness he brushed it off as “that’s the way he talks”…to customers?!?!? He scolded my nephew demanding his ID because he’s under 21 but the rest of us are much older than 21 so not only are we his guardians so it’s unnecessary and ridiculous to scold the minor, why are you approaching aggressively. I guess customer service isn’t afforded to all. And when he went after my brother next and my brother showed him his ID, the owner mentioned the neighborhood and basically making sure we weren’t thugs??? Okay I see, so you came at my family and I aggressively as an intimidation tactic because of the neighborhood so he profiled us and my nephew?? If you’re so scared of our neighborhood then stop taking our business and our money and go somewhere else! Disgusting behavior. Don’t come here there’s much better, more aesthetically appealing, and family friendly places to go.
August 01 · Crystal CollinsI brought 12 kids here for my sons birthday on Saturday, and they had a great time! We stayed for almost two hours. The two ladies behind the counter were nice, patient, and organized. The place was clean, and we had no issues whatsoever. The bathroom was clean overall but should be checked more often and have more hand soap and preferably paper towels to dry hands. As for food, I knew we couldn't bring any in, so we ate beforehand.
February 05 · Kay MacRacically profiled as soon as we walked thru the door, we were asked for our credit cards which had nothing to do with bowling as they literally take cash payments only, the old white man was rude and got in HIS feelings after offending us !why ask for my other friends ID if we were with a guardian??? We were downplayed and criticized as being rude and disrespectful when all we wanted to do was bowl, terrible service and will never go here again.
October 22 · Markala StremyIf you spend your money here understand the bar close before six even on the weekend. The bartender doesn’t make drinks he’ll just sell you beer and Smirnoff. Why have a bar right? The music playlist is stuck somewhere in the 80’s. The food .. haha they have pizza but only plain for 20$. Good thing it’s a liquor store about two blocks down but you have to sneak your drinks inside even if it’s empty. It’s not expensive to bowl that’s the only bright side. It seems like this place is only still around because they’re building up on whatever insurance policy or property value because they’re don’t care about the customers. I won’t be returning !
July 19 · Nicholas RussellWe called ahead and the message emphasized no outside food or drinks allowed. It would've been nice to get the drink I wanted. Rather, we were told they don't make the drink there (LIT). So if you aren't making my drink of choice, why do you have a fully stocked bar? The bar was dusty, dirty and full of boxes everywhere. On another note: Almost 2024 and this place is a CASH ONLY establishment. Another inconvenience. We had a great time overall, but I won't be returning.
