Garwood Lanes Introduce
Located in the heart of Union County, Garwood Lanes stands as a long-time fixture and popular entertainment spot for residents throughout Central New Jersey. More than just a traditional bowling center, this establishment uniquely combines the thrill of bowling with the atmosphere of a Bar & grill, creating a venue where families, leagues, and casual visitors can enjoy a full night of fun. Notably, Garwood Lanes proudly identifies as a women-owned business, contributing to the diversity of entrepreneurship within the New Jersey recreational industry.
Garwood Lanes offers a classic bowling experience, often serving as a nostalgic destination for many who grew up in the area. While the dual identity of a bowling alley and a bar & grill provides convenience, potential visitors should note the balance between these two facets. Recent customer feedback points out that while the venue is excellent for bowling, the atmosphere leans toward a “dive bar experience” and drink prices for liquor may be comparable to a “very nice restaurant,” costing around $15 for a basic mixed drink in a plastic cup. Food is available, though it has been characterized by some as “overwhelmingly greasy.” For those prioritizing the bowling experience and a handy, localized bar scene, Garwood Lanes remains a central and active spot in the community.
Garwood Lanes is situated at 346 North Ave, Garwood, NJ 07027, USA. This highly visible location on North Avenue places it centrally within the borough and makes it an easily recognizable landmark for local Union County users. The accessibility of the location is bolstered by ample parking solutions, offering patrons both a Free parking lot and the option of Free street parking. This dual availability helps ensure that finding a spot is typically hassle-free, which is a major convenience for groups and families.
The facility demonstrates a commitment to accessibility, which is an important feature for all New Jersey businesses serving the public. The establishment provides a Wheelchair accessible entrance and designated Wheelchair accessible parking lot spaces, ensuring that the fun of bowling and the offerings of the bar & grill are available to patrons with mobility challenges.
Garwood Lanes provides a suite of recreational and hospitality services that aim to create a complete entertainment package for its New Jersey clientele.
- Full-Service Bowling Alley: Features multiple lanes to accommodate open bowling, league play, and private events, serving bowlers of all ages and skill levels.

The hours of operation are generally Monday through Thursday from 11:00 am to 12:00 am, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am to 2:00 am, and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 12:00 am.

- League Bowling: As a traditional bowling center, they host various leagues for different skill levels and age groups, which are a cornerstone of the local bowling community.
- Modern Payment Convenience: Customers can pay using a variety of easy methods, including Credit cards, Debit cards, and NFC mobile payments.
Garwood Lanes has several defining characteristics that make it a notable place in the Union County social scene, especially given its business structure and offerings.

- Strong Local Presence: The facility serves as a long-standing gathering spot, particularly for league bowlers and families in Garwood and surrounding towns.

Choosing Garwood Lanes is worthwhile for New Jersey residents who are looking for a reliable, local bowling spot that offers a complete night out without needing to leave the premises. The primary reason to choose this venue is its combination of a functioning bowling center and an on-site bar and grill, which eliminates the need to travel elsewhere for food and drinks. The ability to host children’s birthday parties confirms its dedication to family entertainment, balancing the adult-focused bar side.
However, potential visitors should set expectations based on the nature of the dual environment. Customers have noted high drink prices for liquor relative to the venue's overall atmosphere, as well as the food tending toward being “overwhelmingly greasy.” This suggests the value lies strongly in the bowling activity and convenience rather than a sophisticated dining experience or low bar costs.
Of critical importance are serious concerns raised by customers regarding service and staff behavior. One review explicitly details multiple instances of staff being “rude” and rushing customers, and, most alarmingly, describes what the customer perceived as racially biased monitoring and enforcement of policies toward a Black friend and a Hispanic family, noting, “the only people of color in the entire place was my friend and that family and they seemed to let everyone else do whatever they wanted except for them.” This type of feedback is extremely serious and suggests that while the business is woman-owned and provides accessible infrastructure, the customer service culture and treatment of minority patrons may be problematic. Prospective customers who value respectful and non-discriminatory service should weigh these reported experiences carefully against the venue's recreational offerings before choosing to visit.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1the employees here are so rude, their kitchen was closed and i didn’t know there wasn’t outside food allowed. my sister brought in outside food no problem, but when i walked in with my friend who is black they immediately followed us all the way through to the last lane and yelled at us about the food. (i assume he was one of the managers) i haven’t been here in 10 years so i didn’t realize, considering it’s a bowling alley and not just a bar. they could’ve went about it way differently. i am a store manager of a retail location and would never treat my customers that way for not being aware of a policy. the other manager also kept staring at a family speaking spanish and hovering over them. the only people of color in the entire place was my friend and that family and they seemed to let everyone else do whatever they wanted except for them. we were wrapping up our game and the girl in charge of the shoes started rushing us out before we could even put our shoes back on. the other lane we had occupied was still finishing the game and she said “so are you guys done? because other people are waiting so.” ??? can we not just gather our shit. overall horrible experience. the staff is all rude. they’re seemingly racist (except for the girl approaching us about the lane.) no one else was being monitored but us and one hispanic family. i’m also hispanic and was offended. it sucks cus i came here all the time as a kid. if you don’t like interacting with people, don’t work in customer service!!! would never treat my customers like this. it’s appalling
October 12 · emily groningGreat place for bowling but drink prices are equivalent to a very nice restaurant which is surprising given the dive bar experience and quality. It’s about $15 for a decent liquor and club soda drink in a plastic cup. Come here for bowling but not for cheap drinks. In addition, the food is overwhelmingly greasy. Disappointing, as I use to come here frequently but as of recent years maybe new management has changed things.
October 24 · Sabrina TMy go to bowling alley everyone is very friendly. Not as big as the other major lanes such as Hanover lanes. ~10 lanes that are very well maintained. Separate bar section that’s is very nice. Only downside is music has to be paid for.
October 25 · JamarHonestly, I was really disappointed with Garwood Lanes. For a place in Garwood, I expected a better experience. It felt run-down, dark, and not well-kept at all. Definitely not the kind of vibe I’d want for a fun night out.
October 11 · La PituWe love coming here for a game or two. Friendly service, bar food and drinks, and a jukebox - fun guaranteed! Also a great place for a kids birthday party.
