The Gutter L.E.S. Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a true, authentic entertainment experience that perfectly blends classic Americana with modern downtown cool, The Gutter L.E.S. is the destination of choice. Located in the heart of the Lower East Side (L.E.S.) at Essex Crossing, this venue is the first bowling alley in the neighborhood, immediately establishing itself as a unique and popular hub. It takes the classic dive-bar atmosphere and injects it with the fun energy of a vintage bowling alley, all while serving up a surprisingly high-quality food and drink menu.
The Gutter L.E.S. sets itself apart with its authentic, retro design. The space features 12 vintage, full-sized bowling lanes with classic ten-pin action, providing a nostalgic feel that is distinct from modern, corporate bowling chains. The massive 100-foot bar, which is creatively constructed from reclaimed bowling lanes, anchors the room and is lined with 24 taps, showcasing a dedication to American craft beer. This focus on vintage charm and quality beverages creates a space that is both 'casual' and inherently 'cool.'
The venue is equally loved for its food, which goes well beyond standard pub fare. The full kitchen features a brick oven, turning out genuinely delicious pizzas like the 'Pin Deck' (sausage, potato, rosemary) and the 'Spicy Buffalo Chicken.' This commitment to good eats, along with a staff known for being 'friendly and chill,' makes it an ideal spot not just for bowling, but for a complete social gathering. Customers frequently praise the 'great hospitality' and the helpfulness of management and staff, who are noted for making guests feel like family—sometimes even acting as 'real life superheroes' to save a chilly day.
The Gutter L.E.S. is a fantastic choice for hosting events, and visitors are highly encouraged to book in advance for parties. While it is always open for walk-in bowling, the lanes are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and waits can occur during peak hours. Patrons should note the venue's age policy: minors are welcome with an adult 21+ until 7 p.m. daily, after which time all guests must be 21+ to enter.
The Gutter L.E.S. is perfectly positioned at the crossroads of downtown New York City culture. Its address is 77 Essex St, New York, NY 10002, USA, placing it within the bustling Essex Crossing development, conveniently located between Delancey and Broome Streets, directly across from Essex Market.
The location is highly accessible via public transportation, being steps away from the F, J, M, and Z subway lines at the Delancey/Essex Street station. While parking in this part of Manhattan is typically challenging, its central location makes it easy to reach for New Yorkers across the boroughs.

The Gutter L.E.S. Reviews
The manager Deli was a real life superhero and completely saved the day when my young son and I drove two hours to catch the Squid Games experience located next door to the Gutter and found it unexpectedly closed. He saw us outside in the cold and welcomed us into the Gutter. Treated my young son like a little prince and showed him the best time. Can’t thank you enough—we will be back!!
October 14 · Kelcey EdwardsI was here for a birthday party and had to give a shoutout. Amazing place to bowl with friends, get nice drinks for a good price in the city, food was pretty goooood too. Also thanks to management and Caleb specifically for great hospitality. Staff was so friendly and chill.Book this place for your next party 🙌🏼
November 06 · Ashten RodriguezThis bowling alley was nice. I love the vintage vibes. It had games and a huge bar. The staff were all nice and pleasant. They had several tvs with different options to watch different things. The pizza was not all that but the quesadillas was good. I enjoyed the fact they had hard ciders because not many bars or establishments do. Definitely a spot to come to on a late night and just have a drink for real even if you don’t plan on bowling.
March 01 · Franny BaeI had a wonderful time at the Gutter this afternoon. I found the staff extremely kind and helpful and were willing to go the extra mile to accommodate and enhance our experience. Great music and atmosphere here too.
April 19 · Dominiki KurzNice vibe only a few lanes, so it was full when we first entered, but it has a nice bar and pin ball machines to keep you occupied. Even the bathroom mirrors have a cute antique aesthetic. Tho, the prices were a bit steep at $90 for 4 ppl for an hours time, but that included the shoes. The space is also wheel chair accessible with an elevator and ramp to go to each level. It was a good time with good music and kind staff.I did see other reviews about the rudness of the front security and we didn't encounter that on New Years night when we went. We got scanned like any other bar even when we came in the second time. And they allowed my friend in with a Passport as valid ID.
