The Gutter Introduce
**The Gutter** is a Brooklyn staple that perfectly embodies the creative, vintage-chic spirit of the Williamsburg/Greenpoint area. More than just a bar, it is a unique entertainment complex that seamlessly blends a **vintage dive bar vibe** with the fun of a classic bowling alley. The venue, founded by the owners of the popular Barcade, is celebrated for its **authentic retro decor**, featuring eight refurbished wooden bowling lanes imported from Nebraska, and an old-school scoring system that eschews high-tech digital screens for a nostalgic flair.
The atmosphere is intentionally **casual and trendy**, attracting a diverse and enthusiastic crowd, including **groups** and those who identify as **LGBTQ+ friendly** and view the space as a **transgender safe space**. The bar area is a destination in itself, boasting a commitment to American craft beer with **12 taps** featuring staples like Allagash White and Narragansett Lager, alongside nine rotating craft options. This focus on quality drinks, combined with daily happy hour specials and various entertainment offerings like **live music, comedy, and trivia night**, makes The Gutter a highly dynamic and sought-after hangout in New York City.
Though the physical bowling lanes are small (only eight) and can be pricey for Brooklyn standards with potentially long wait times on weekends, the venue is praised for its **fun and friendly atmosphere**, **great beer selection**, and overall value, particularly during off-peak hours.
The Gutter is situated at **200 N 14th St, Brooklyn, NY 11249, USA**. This location places it on the industrial border between the popular Greenpoint and Williamsburg neighborhoods. It is conveniently located just a short walk from the L train’s Bedford Avenue stop, making it easily accessible for residents across Manhattan and Brooklyn.
For those driving, the venue's location near abandoned warehouses and industrial factories offers the advantage of **Free street parking** and **Paid street parking**, which is a significant convenience in a high-demand area like Williamsburg. The establishment is also committed to accessibility, providing:**
- **Wheelchair accessible entrance**
- **Wheelchair accessible restroom**

The Gutter is the ideal choice for New Yorkers seeking a **genuinely fun, retro, and socially dynamic night out** in Williamsburg where the focus is on a great **bar experience** combined with the novelty of vintage bowling.
The primary reason to choose The Gutter is its **unique, integrated bar and bowling concept**. It successfully merges a reputable craft beer bar with a low-key, authentic bowling experience. The **affordable pricing for drinks** and the frequent **live entertainment** are the main draws, offering a high-value experience that transcends the cost of bowling itself. Furthermore, the commitment to inclusivity provides a relaxed and safe environment for a diverse clientele.
However, visitors from abroad should be mindful of the venue's **strict ID policy**, which requires a physical passport for foreign identification, as noted in a customer review. While this policy aligns with New York State regulations to only accept US/Canadian licenses or any country's passport for alcohol purchases, the rigorous enforcement might be surprising to some tourists. For all New Yorkers, it is advisable to **arrive early, especially on weekends**, as the limited number of lanes means wait times for walk-in bowling can be long, but securing a spot at the bar to enjoy the atmosphere, the games, and the excellent beer is always worth the trip.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Decent bowling alley with a good atmosphereOverall, I had a good time at this bowling alley. The place is a bit old and could use some updates, but it still has a fun and friendly atmosphere. It’s a nice spot to spend time with friends and enjoy a game or two.
October 18 · Tal SelaIf you’re visiting from abroad be sure avoid this place unless you want to bring your physical passport out with you. While it is a NYC rule to not take foreign is aside from passports, Gutter bar is much stricter than anywhere else in the area (most will take a photo of your passport with id). Also quite rude about it as we didn’t even press the issue before politely leaving and we’re still greeted with a “is that a passport” to our drivers license.Save yourself the time and go to the better bowling alleys and bars around Williamsburg and greenpoint.
November 01 · Dubose ColeActually this is not the first time I came to bowling at Gutter bar. This time my best friend just want to chill out so I go with her. On Sunday night it wasn't packed, there were 4 groups ahead of us but we didn't wait too long. It was so fun to come with friend no one care the score you get just having a good time.Bartender and another staff are super casual. The early shift was good but the night shift are kind of lazy and boring. That was one of the reason we left because after changing the shift, we feel the service was not good.
August 22 · Melissa NajaNo food served here however you can bring outside food in. We've been coming to The Gutter for The Simpsons trivia night which is the first Tuesday of every month. They focus on the 1990s episodes and people who attend really know their stuff. Prepare to study before you go
October 10 · Ricky BrownI visited this place last Thursday and at first everything seemed fine, but the drinks were a complete scam. The margaritas were made with the cheapest alcohol, and by the second round they were nothing more than water with lime — no alcohol at all. To charge $96 for drinks of this quality is insulting, as if customers wouldn’t notice. Absolutely unacceptable and dishonest.
